The gorgeous, historic murals painted by Bernard Zakheim during the WPA years (1935-1943) in UCSF's Toland Hall are (in 2020) threatened. UCSF plans to demolish the beautiful but obsolete UC Hospital Building that houses Toland Hall. Preserving the murals would require chopping out vast wall slabs and re-erecting them in a new location. The process is delicate and expensive. It would cost millions and the money's just not there. We are about to suffer a tragic loss.
