Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

Hitler, Pol Pot, Pinochet, Stroessner, Kaddafy, Mugabe, and far too many more have all applied the procedure described by Naomi Wolf's formula for dictatorship. It's detailed in her 2007 book The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot.

George Bush and his administration did every single one of the ten steps. Obama did some, too. The Trump cabal does them masterfully. Here they are:

  1. Control the press

  2. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy

  3. Create a gulag

  4. Develop a thug caste

  5. Set up an internal surveillance system

  6. Harass citizens' groups

  7. Engage in arbitrary detention and release

  8. Target key individuals

  9. Dissent equals treason

  10. Suspend the rule of law
