capitalist ideology
Though the details of their philosophies have little in common, Adam Smith and Ayn Rand and several others taught us that capitalism is not only efficient and practical, it's also moral. Making money motivates and is good for society as a whole ("utopia of greed"). The flip side of this is the cruel disregard for those left behind. Also, it runs into the problem of the commons (pressure to waste resources that are shared). Both problems can and must be solved by benevolent governmental regulation, taxation, redistribution, etc.
