international law

The right wing treats international law not as a means of achieving American objectives but as an unnecessary and unjustified limitation on the exercise of American power. Rather, int'l law should be a cornerstone of American foreign policy. There are many problems we cannot solve ourselves, e.g. global warming. And there is also the regulation and coordination of commerce, transport, and communication. Terrorism, too, cannot be fought in isolation. The threat is transnational. The primary mechanism for int'l law is the UN which we should support rather than sabotage. Also need Int'l Criminal Court, Kyoto Treaty, etc.
