Medicare:

- Part D: the new prescription drug coverage: - starts with a $250 deductible in 2006 - pays 75% of the next $2,000 spent - pays nothing for the next $2,850 spent - pays 95% for drug bills over $5,100
- does not cover custodial care, ADLs, long-term care

Medicaid:
- federal coverage for low-income people
- the nation's largest health insurance plan
- cover 53 million Americans
- administered by states and counties
- federal govt matches state money
- states have broad latitude to add benefits and enroll more residents
- in Calif, agency is Medi-Cal

SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- federal program
- administered by Calif Dept of Social Svcs (CDSS)
- cash assistance to low-income aged, blind, disabled PACE (Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)
