Classroom Hardware and Software Requirements
- a PC or workstation for each student
(Unix, Windows 95, or Windows NT)
- a PC or workstation for the instructor
- a data projector for the instructor's computer
- a web browser on each computer
- a working internet connection on each computer
- any text editor, preferably one with line numbering
- DOS or shell command windows available on every computer
- the Java
Development Kit (JDK) version 1.1 or later
(from java.sun.com)
installed on each computer
- the JDK binaries must be in a directory
that's in the PATH variable
- the JDK documentation must be installed in the JDK directory
- for NT systems, the WinZip utility should be available
for unpacking class archives and the JDK itself
(Sun delivers the JDK for NT in WinZip format)
- to reduce time spent waiting for downloads,
a shared volume, writable by the instructor
and readable by the class, is recommended
